Elías B. Halldórsson, painter.

Elías B. Halldórsson is an Icelandic painter, born 2nd of December 1930 on the east coast. He studied in the Icelandic College of Art and Crafts from 1955 to 1958 and sought postgraduate education in the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart, Germany and the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, Denmark. In 1963 he moved to the Icelandic village Sauðárkrókur with his wife and sons. He worked as a labourer and painted in his spare time. He concentrated solely on his art from 1974 onwards when he was 43 years old. He became known for his paintings as well as his lithography and graphic arts works. Elías moved to Reykjavík in 1986 and 12 months later to Kópavogur. He had three sons, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was a very productive artist and his works can be found in homes, institutions, banks, companies and art museums. He held 55 private exhibitions and participated in 36 art exhibitions. Elías died from cancer on 2nd of May 2007. His artistic career and his life and times are detailed in a book published in 2008. You can order the book here.
